I remember
standing in a food pantry line, hoping the produce would be fresh, or close to fresh, when I got it home. Most times, it wasn't. Lettuce already wilting. Tomatoes bruised beyond use. Vegetables spoiled within a day or two.
Fresh vegetables were a luxury, not a staple. I remember wanting to grow my own food but having no yard, no space, no way forward as a renter. That was my reality. And it's the reality for thousands of families in our community right now.
It doesn't have to be this way.
When I discovered hydroponics, everything changed. Suddenly, I could grow fresh lettuce, herbs, and vegetables in a closet-sized space in my home. No yard. No expensive grocery trips. No more expired food pantry produce. Just fresh food, growing right in my home, whenever I needed it.
That first harvest—that first head of lettuce I grew myself—represented more than food. It represented independence. Dignity. Control over something that had always felt out of my control.
Now I help others experience that same transformation.
Through Community Harvest Hydroponics, I provide affordable growing systems to families, retirees, and individuals who face the same barriers I once faced. But I know that for some, even our most affordable option is still out of reach.
That's why I'm launching the Growing Forward Initiative.
